CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND RULES

Championship Weekend will be held on March 27^th- 30, 2025. Upon completion of the league regular season, the schedules will be provided as soon as they are finalized.

 

Game Format/Protocols/Suspensions:

 

• All games will have a 5-minute warm-up.
• There will be three 20-minute stop time periods. (Championship Series)
• There will be a 15, 20, 20-minute stop time (Consolation Division)
• There is to be a FLOOD between each period. There will be a 12-minute clock set in between the first and at the end of the second period. Teams that are not on their bench and ready to play by the end of 12 minutes, will be assessed a delay of game penalty.
• If the game is tied at the end of regulation time, there will be a 2-minute break (no flood or scrape), followed by a 10 minute-sudden victory (3 on 3 including the goalie)
• For the overtime period, goaltenders remain in the same end as the third period
• If the game is still tied at the end of overtime, there will be a shoot out. Please refer to page 2 Shoot-Out Rules
• Each team is allowed one (1) 30-second time out per game
• All minor penalties, misconduct and suspensions carry into the overtime period and shootout.
• If a suspension occurs in a game, OWHA suspension policies and procedures are in effect
• Teams must notify stats@owha.on.ca of the suspension prior to the start of their next game.
• The home team gets to choose if they want to shoot first (1st) or second (2nd) prior to shootout

 

Game Points

 

Pick Up Player Procedure:

• Each team is permitted to dress twenty players (up to 18 players and 2 goaltenders) for each game.
• You are allowed to add players to your roster that will not exceed the 20-player limit. Pickup players must be rostered with an OWHA team.
• Pick Ups cannot be used to replace a player serving a suspension. Each player must be listed with “AP” for Pick-Up player, beside her name on the electronic game sheet. If you have 1 player under suspension, the maximum number of players dressed is 19.
• Pick up players can be utilized from a lower category in the same age group or from the same or lower category in a lower age group.

 

Point Tiebreakers:  (This is the same tie breaker we use for league play)

-      In cases where teams are tied in points at the end of round robin play, the tie-break procedures will be as follows:

1. Number of wins.
2. Record against other tied team
3. Goals scored minus the goals against in round robin games
4. Fewest goals allowed in round robin play
5. Most periods won in round robin play
6. Fewest penalty minutes in round robin play.
7. First goal scored in a series.
8. Flip of a coin

 -      In cases of more than two tied teams, tiebreakers will follow the numerical order until all ties are broken.

 

Shoot-Out Rules

 

1. The Home team will have the option of shooting first or second. The teams will alternate players shooting on the opposing goalie (i.e. they don’t shoot at the same time). All Hockey Canada playing rules applicable to penalty shots are to be followed (refer to Official Playing Rules in the rule book, 4.11). All shooters will start out with the puck at center ice.

 

2. It will be the responsibility of the timekeeper to keep track of the number of each shoote It will be the responsibility of the home team to ensure that the timekeeper is aware of their responsibilities.

 

3. If still tied after the 3-player shootout, a sudden victory shootout will take place. Each team will continue to send out a single player until one team scores and the other doesn’t at which point the team scoring will be declared winner.

 

4. A player may only shoot once until the smallest of the rosters of eligible players has been gone through completely (minus goalies) at which point the team with the larger roster may elect to have a player who has already shot shoot aga

 

 

U22 ELITE PLAYOFF INFORMATION

OWHA U22AA Elite - Championship and Consolation Weekend

Thursday, March 27 - Sunday, March 30, 2025

OWHA U22AA Elite Championship Weekend (14 games)

Games will consist of three periods of play (20-20-20)

 

The 8 winning teams out of their respective playoff series will move onto the OWHA U22AA Championship Weekend and will be seeded based on their regular season records, teams will be placed in one of two pools below

Each team will play a single game on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for a total of 3 round-robin games.

After the round robin portion of the championship weekend four teams will advance to either the gold medal or the bronze medal game on Sunday.

OWHA U22AA ELITE Consolation Championship Weekend (25 games)

Games will consist of three periods of play (15-15-20)

 

Note: The last place team in Division Red, and Division Blue during the 2024-2025 regular season will play in a best of five playoff series with the winning team advancing to the OWHA U22AA Elite Consolation Championship Weekend. The losing team will be eliminated from participating in the Consolation Championship Weekend.

 

The remaining sixteen teams, including the winner of the two last place teams in the Red Division, Blue Division, will be seeded as per below based on their regular season records and placed in one of two pools

Pool C - teams will play 2 games on Friday, and 1 game on Saturday for a total of 3 games in the round-robin portion of the event

Pool D - teams will play 1 game on Friday, and 2 games on Saturday for a total of 3 games in the round-robin portion of the event
